ONEWS - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has dissolved his six-member war cabinet, a move widely anticipated following the departure of centrist opposition leader Benny Gantz and his ally, Gadi Eisenkot.
A government spokesperson stated that the existing security cabinet and the larger full cabinet will now make decisions about the war with Hamas in Gaza.
Since Mr. Gantz resigned eight days ago over what he described as a lack of strategy for the war, there has been pressure from far-right ministers to replace him.
By dissolving the war cabinet, Mr. Netanyahu avoids a difficult situation with his coalition partners and international allies.
An Israel Defense Forces (IDF) spokesperson said that, as far as he knows, this would not affect the chain of command.
Mr. Gantz and Mr. Eisenkot joined the national unity government with Mr. Netanyahu’s right-wing coalition a few days after the war began in October.
The two former IDF chiefs of staff announced their resignation on June 9, with Mr. Gantz stating that the prime minister's leadership "prevented us from achieving true victory."
Immediately after, far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir said he had written to Mr. Netanyahu demanding to be added to the war cabinet.
